Sick pay for working parents
Working mothers and fathers who are insured in the public health insurance are entitled to 10 days (unpaid) leave from work per year and per parent for the care of a co-insured sick child under 12 years of age (with some health insurance companies also under 14 years of age). If there are several children, the maximum is 25 days. The health insurance company pays sickness benefits during this time. For single parents, the benefits per child annually increase to 20 days with a maximum of 50 days. To make a claim, childcare should be necessary from a medical point of view and a sick note from the doctor should be made available.
